The Blackberry 8900 Curve and the Blackberry 9000 Bold are both marvelous additions to Rim’s portfolio of Blackberry smart phones.
Hardware
The 8900 Curve has a smaller and lighter frame that has the dimensions of 109 x 60 x 13.5 mm in contrast to the Bold’s vital statistics of 114 x 66 x 14 mm. The Bold is larger owing to its wider screen as compared to the 2.4 inch screen of the 8900. The track ball of the 9000 is more difficult to operate than that of the Blackberry Curve because it is not recessed and feels less solid. The keypad of the Curve has a more finger friendly ergonomically placed set of keys than the Blackberry Bold.
Software
Both phones use the same software as their operating system namely Rim’s 4.6 OS. The operating system functions smoothly in both phones without intermittent hangs/lockups. The interface on both phones is graphically rich.
Multimedia facets
The Blackberry 8900 Curve’s 3.2 Mega pixel camera is endowed with auto focus, geo tagging facility, image stabilization attribute and an LED Flash for a perfect shot. The Blackberry 9000 Bold with its 2 Mega pixel camera is imperceptible before the 8900′s camera. It is equipped with an LED flash. Its image quality is lower when compared to the Curve’s camera. The cameras of both phones have video recording capability.
Both phones support many games and allow downloading of additional games onto the phone as well.
Both phones have a media player to manage audio and video. While the media player of the 8900 Curve can support audio file formats like MP3/AAC/AAC+/WMA , the Blackberry 9000 Bold can support only MP3/WMA/AAC+ audio file formats. The media player of the Curve supports DivX/XviD/MPEG4/WMV video file formats in comparison to the DivX/WMV/XviD/3gp formats supported by the Bold’s media player.
Both phones have Blue tooth connectivity, USB ports and a 3.5mm audio socket for enhanced listening experience.
Both phones have html browsers for a superior internet experience. While both phones sport Wi Fi technology for internet connectivity at hot spots and at home; the Bold has a 3G HSDPA which is absent in the Curve.
More Features
The Curve comes with a superior 256MB RAM that blows away the 128 MB RAM sported by the 9000 Bold. The 8900 has a standby time of 356 hours and a talk time of 5 hours 30 minutes in contrast to the lesser stand by time of 310 hours and talk time of 5 hours offered by the 9000.
However the Blackberry Bold has a faster processor (624 MHz) in comparison to the Curve’s (512 MHz) which lets you keep many applications open concurrently.
The 9000 also has a voice memo and document editor attribute which is absent in the Blackberry 8900 Curve. Both phones have GPS facility to support their Google Maps and Blackberry Maps application. The Blackberry Curve has more functional facets than the Blackberry Bold, and makes a better choice.
